Emergency
Preparedness
Recent global events have clearly demonstrated that individual emergency
preparedness is of the utmost importance in surviving a catastrophe. Will
you and your family be prepared if there's an emergency on Gabriola?
Although Gabriola is eligible for assistance under the Provincial Emergency
Program (PEP), it needs to be remembered that in a large-scale emergency,
such as a major earthquake, resources will be scarce and a small island
like Gabriola will be low on the priority list.
Therefore Gabriola's emergency plan group strongly recommends
individual and neighbourhood preparedness. For more information on what
you can do to prepare, review the information found in Family,
Neighbourhood and Gabriola
emergency preparedness.

Emergency
Assistance
GESS
is part of the ESS provincial program which provides
short-term assistance to British Columbians who are forced to leave
their homes because of fire, floods, earthquakes or other emergencies.
This assistance includes food, lodging, clothing, emotional support
and family reunification.
Although the province assists GESS with
training and planning, communities are expected to be self sufficient
in providing manpower and pre-emergency supplies
